Decorative Front Porch

Decorative Front Porch Installation to Vintage Residence - Oak Park, Illinois

Project Type:  Front porch installation to enlarge the visual size of a Historic District, single family home in Oak Park, Illinois.

Objective:  This old “farm house” was first seen in pictures in the 1890’s surrounded by open land and chicken coops. Since then, Oak Park has built up but this home had not kept up to the neighboring standards.

Scope of Work:  The goal was to make this small home look bigger and give it the Victorian detailing that the neighboring properties exhibited.  At the same time we had to maintain the scale of this smaller home.

Details:  There were issues with how and where to create a “wrap around porch” typical of the larger homes on the block and in this Historic area. The existing front sloping roofline created a problematic issue that needed to be dealt.  The result is a porch that makes this property look much larger and blends with the existing roofline as well at the neighboring properties. All designs had to be approved by the Oak Park Historic Commission as well as the Oak Park Building Department.
